Things To Do
Traeth Llanddwyn
Visit Traeth Llanddwyn (LLanddwyn Beach) and Ynys Llanddwyn (Llanddwyn Island).
5 minutes drive from Tŷ Nain and consistently voted among the best beaches in the UK, including by The Times and Country Living Magazine with approximately 6 miles of pristine golden sand.
Ynys Llanddwyn is an island just off the main beach which is separated from the main island at high tide. Once the home of St. Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers, this is a beautiful and enchanting place and you can walk the paths around the whole island. Although make sure you check tide times so as not to get cut off!
Dogs can also be walked on sections of the beach during summer.
Please check the map either online or in the carpark.

Food & Drink
A few of our favourite local places.
A lovely little bistro in Newborough. Open from 5pm during the summer season they offer tapas style small plates, as well as a selection of wines and local beers. There is also a gift shop and gallery upstairs.
A great restaurant and bar close to the beach, where dogs are welcome (not in the restaurant). They offer an extensive menu as well as a dog menu!
The Boat House - Red Wharf Bay
This family run restaurant and cafe has been serving delicious food and drinks for 50 years. It is an incredibly busy place so booking is a must in high season. Open from 10am for breakfast until late for dinner, you can get Welsh Rarebit and Welsh sirloin steak, to homemade Thai curry Welsh lamb rump.
History
Caernarfon Castle, Beaumaris Castle and Penmon Point
Anglesey and Wales are steeped in history, and you can visit some excellent examples of medieval castles and churches. Caernarfon Castle is a must see and Beaumaris offers truly incredible views of Snowdon from the ramparts. At Penmon Point you can see the fantastic lighthouse and puffin island beyond, plus the 16th century dovecote and monastic ruins.
Eryri National Park (Snowdonia)
Approximately 30 minutes away.

There are plenty of signposted cycling trails in Newborough Forest that are perfect for mountain or gravel bikes. Also a great place to take the family to cycle along the gravel tracks that meander through the forest. Keep your eyes peeled for a sighting of a red squirrel.
Family Activities
Anglesey Sea Zoo, Foel Farm Park, Plas Newydd and more…
There is so much to do on Anglesey we can’t possibly fit it all on here. However, apart from the endless beaches and amazing castles, there are more activities close to Tŷ Nain that get great reviews. Anglesey Sea Zoo, Foel Farm Park, Halon Môn Sea Salt and Plas Newydd National Trust, are all within a 15 minute drive. For the horse riders out there Anglesey Equestrian Centre is excellent and offers hacks or beach rides for the more experienced riders. Plus, you really should go to Llanfairpg train station and have your picture taken infront of the longest station name in Europe and second longest in the world!

Just 1/2 a mile walk from Tŷ Nain
The Anglesey Coastal Path takes in 130 miles of the stunning Anglesey coastline. It briefly dips inland, and Tŷ Nain is lucky enough to be located only 1/2 a mile from where it does.

Sporting Events
Why not use Tŷ Nain as your base when competing in the amazing local sporting events
Newborough Forest Parkrun is 5 minutes drive from Tŷ Nain and probably one of the most beautiful parkruns you will ever do. Why not complete the parkrun and cool down with a post run dip on Traeth Llanddwyn.
One for the cyclists, the Tour de Môn is a superb sportive around Anglesey. With a range of course options from a 3.5 mile family ride to a 106 mile route that covers most of Anglesey.
For the triathletes out there the Sandman Triathlon is a must do event . A stunning course starting with the swim from Llanddwyn Beach, bike around Anglesey, and finishing with the run through Newborough Forest and along the beach.
Another brilliant event is the Anglesey Trail Half Marathon and 10k through Newborough Forest and along Llanddwyn Beach.
If you fancy travelling a little further afield there are many events based around Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). The Snowdon Trail Marathon event is one of our favourites, with routes from 10k to Ultra Marathon distance. All routes are extremely challenging, but the views are incredible.
